While this post does not possess the most captivating of titles, the Covid-19 pandemic has really taught me to value the "little things," like being able to go to brunch with an old friend. In a time of limitation and uncertainty, a seemingly uneventful day can be just the breath of fresh air you've been looking for.
I admit, the day began in chaos - my friend Caitlin being trapped in traffic, my going to the wrong brunch location... but ultimately what began in disarray rearranged itself into a peaceful, Orange County autumn day.
“The whole object of travel is not to set foot on foreign land; it is at last to set foot on one’s own country as a foreign land.” – G.K. Chesterton
We indulged in unique brunch mimosas flavored with lavender and pomegranate before diving into the savory delights placed in front of us. Snooze sure knows how to provide an exceptional brunch!
With our bellies full and tastebuds rejoicing, we sat on a bench for a while, caught up on life and enjoyed the warm sun. Sometimes, fulfillment doesn't come from the most extravagant of days - sometimes it is simply sitting on a park bench with a dear friend, surrounded by lush greenery, orange trees and the soft hum of a casual Sunday.
A few photos later, we found ourselves at Sweet Art Cafe. My gluten-free pal Caitlin chose some beautiful macarons, while I opted for a slice of tiramisu and an iced vanilla oat milk latte.
The sun was already beginning its rapid descent, and an autumn golden hour bathed the greenery and buildings alike in warm hues and dancing shadows.
One last leisurely walk, and we were back at our cars. Our little Orange County adventure had come to an end, but we were grateful to have found some local solace in the midst of a stressful time.
Have you ever explored a neighboring city?
Until next time,
Happy wandering!
